Reader's Spotlight

The Reader's Voice

I would like to introduce to Ms. Jelicia Baker. Although we've only met recently, the ideas that she expressed that drive her passion for reading really connected with me. Authors, you want to get your books in this woman's hands.

CA Ask: Who are you?

Jelicia: My name is Jelicia Baker

CA Ask: What do you like to do to relax?

Jelicia: There are a couple of things I do to relax. I love to take my kids to the park and while they play I relax and read a good book in the grass. Also I love to sew as a form of relaxation. The next thing I do is kind of embarrassing to admit. I love to browse Pinterest lol. I can get stuck there for hours.

CA Ask: Which genre(s) do you like to read?

Jelicia: I usually read urban fiction, but occasionally I'll read mysteries and paranormal books.

CA Ask: What types of books do you like to read?

Jelicia: I like to read books that are original, hold my attention, have an interesting plot, and shockers.

CA Ask: What book started your love affair with books?

Jelicia: There are two books that started my reading addiction. Those books are Flyy Girl and The Coldest Winter Ever. After I read those books I was hooked.

CA Ask: Who are some of your favorite authors:?

Jelicia: My favorite authors are Takerra Allen, Noire, Ashley and JaQuavis Coleman, Nicole Jackson, Nako and Natavia. I know that if I read one of these authors book I will not be disappointed.

CA Ask: Name a character that has stuck with you long after you finished the book.

Jelicia: The characters that I always think about is Denache Aka Denny or D-Rock from Devout. I have an unnatural addiction and attraction to a book character lol. I honestly love this character because he's so complex and has different layers to himself.

CA Ask: If you could meet any character(s) from any book who would it be? And why?

Jelicia: I would love to meet Denny from Devout. I would like to meet him just to sit down with him and have a deep conversation and hopefully learn a little bit about what makes him tick. I would also like to meet his other half, Neeka from the same book just to see unconditional and pure love in the flesh.

CA Ask: What advice would you give writers?

Jelicia: If I could give any writters advice I would advise them not to box themselves in by being a "one trick pony." They should always be original, not afraid to try something new and always write something they could be proud of and would purchase if it was written by someone else.

CA Ask: How do you know Carey?

Jelicia: I met Carey through Don't Read Me Read A Book. We're also in a book club together.

CA Ask: Do you have any hobbies besides reading?

Jelicia: I love to do arts and crafts, sewing, D.I.Y, and makeup when I'm not reading.

It is now time to meet our Wallace Family Affairs Historian, Nae. Her love of Sci-Fi literature and film is the seasoning that gives her that amazing eye for details. I lovingly refer to her as the keeper of the WFA timeline. Nae was my point of reference whenever I could not call a minor detail to mind right away during my creative process. No matter how big or small, her appreciation for details has been a major player in keeping the WFA timeline and story consistent. Whether we are discussing the Wallace's or any other story, Nae discusses each character with me as if she sees them as clearly as I do. With the addition of Nae she has rounded out my Beta Reader team. Everyone please give a warm welcome to Nae.

Please join me in saying a warm HELLO to Fantastic Fin. This is the woman who encouraged me to keep going when Tracy began her love affair with Andrew. She wanted to know more. MORE! MORE! MORE! She'd call me daily to demand a new chapter in what became the Wallace Family Affairs. When I would get frustrated and want to stop, Fantastic Fin would laugh with me at my dramatic fit and then encourage me to keep going. Her attachment to Malcolm Latour led her to pin the hashtag #TeamMalcolmNeverDies as she relentlessly pushed for "My Malcolm" to man up. Her faith in the goodness in him when even I wasn't so sure is part of what made him so AMAZING! Fantastic Fin and Dri have brought me flowers and drank countless bottles of wine with me as we dish about these Wallace's as if they're real people. Everyone say hello to Fantastic Fin.
